Overcomers!

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. KJV

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. NIV.

My dear children, you come from God and belong to God. You have already won a big victory over those false teachers, for the Spirit in you is far stronger than anything in the world. The Message Bible. 1 John 4:4

Who is HE? HE is the Holy Spirit of YHWH ADONAI.

 The Almighty YHWH (El Shaddai), there is none like HIM. Holy, glorious in might, a loving FATHER, Omniscient, Omnipresent, and Omnipotent. He is all-knowing, full of wisdom and knowledge, present everywhere in and outside of all creation, and all-powerful. No one can stand against Him. He is the Lord of hosts (YHWH SHABA), meaning the One who leads in warfare or commands an army. (Psalm 46:7).

On top of this, He has loved us with an everlasting love, unlike our love, which falters with dirty looks, anger, and distrust. His covenant love will never fail us, regardless of who we are and what we do.  Plus, it is immeasurably vast, never-ending, and protective.  He loves us as a Father, caring for every detail and need. (Jer 31:31; Eph 3:18-19).

His Spirit is the source/force within our inner being. He fills us to bless, encourage, and strengthen us, our faith in Him, and to do His will. Then we overflow with His grace and love to others, meeting their needs and blessing them.  We do not need more than Him to combat any situation in the world.

Who is ‘You’ in this Bible verse?

These are the ‘dear children ‘of YHWH ADONAI to whom the apostle John is writing in his letter 1 John.  He is advising believers to discern between the Spirit of Yeshua, the Messiah, and the spirit of antichrist/satan.  They should recognize false prophets who do not acknowledge that Yeshua is from God. (1 John 4:3)  Denying the divinity of Yeshua or falsehoods about Him is the spirit of antichrist and is very obvious in Islam and other religions.  We are children of YHWH, a chosen people, a royal priesthood, His special possession to declare His praises. His Holy Spirit lives within us and makes us living temples. We radiate His glory, His attributes, and shalom. We exist to bring His kingdom on earth.

Who is he that is in the world?

Satan is the fallen angel, a created being and pure evil, trying to destroy creation and deceive people through unbelief. Satan means adversary. He is the enemy and opponent of  ADONAI and His followers. He rebelled against YHWH along with many angels and was cast down to the earth. (Ezekiel 28:15; Isaiah 14:12-17). Yeshua defeated him at the cross, disarming satan’s rulers and authorities, openly shaming them. Col 2:15.

He can intimidate you through fear, sickness, oppression, sin, and deception, but he is far below and subject to YHWH ADONAI. We must choose faith in Yeshua the Messiah and exercise the authority He has vested in us to overcome satan. WE must violently resist him till he flees from us through submission to YHWH.

This chapter warns us to discern the spirits to know if they originate from YHWH or from satan.  Because of many false teachers, teachings, and trends that end, we must be vigilant and well-grounded in Scripture and faith in Yeshua Messiah. His Spirit will guide and counsel us. 

But the best part is that we have overcome them already through the mighty Holy Spirit within us.
