Why was resurrection necessary when Yeshua’s death was adequate?
Yeshua said he would rise from the dead, and He did.
Yeshua spoke the truth all along. He said he would lay down his life only to take it up. (John 10:11, 17-29). His sacrifice was voluntary, willing, and purposeful. He prophesied about his resurrection and went on to make it happen. No other human had ever done so. It is also documented historically by his naysayers. His resurrection showed His Lordship and authority over death. YHWH made Yeshua both Lord and Messiah. Acts 2:36.
He said he would rise on the 3rd day and proved it by doing so. (Luke 9:22, Matt 16:21, Mark 9:30-31; Luke 24:13-34).
If Yeshua had not risen from the dead, it would mean that he was under Elohim’s curse and a sinner like us. (Deut 21:23; Gal 3:13, 1 Cor 15:17). It would mean that he was a fake messiah, a liar, and a deceiver. His sacrifice was a sham. Everything he'd said earlier would be questionable. If he could not free himself from death, how would he free others? We would be foolish to believe in him. But thankfully, this is not the case.
His body did not decay/rot in the grave.
His body did not suffer rot/ corruption in the grave. YHWH would not let His Holy One see decay. He arose with a glorified and incorruptible, eternal body. Psalm 16: 10, Acts 2:27, 31-32;16:34-37, Luke 24:37-39,41.
It was the same body, bearing the marks of his suffering, that his disciples touched and believed. He walked with them and ate their food. They recognized his voice when He spoke. He had only to call her name, and Miriam knew it was Yeshua. Zechariah 12:10 tells us He will still bear those marks when He returns.
Yeshua descended to Hades and returned.
Psalm 68:18 He ascended to the Father and led captives, the OT saints, from the Paradise section of Hades to Heaven with himself. They were awaiting atonement through Yeshua. Ephesians 4:7-9. He gave them gifts of eternal life and forgiveness of sins through his sacrifice.
Yeshua told Nicodemus, ‘No one has ever gone up into heaven except the One who came down from heaven- the Son of Man. John 3: 13. Only after Yeshua paid the penalty for the sins of mankind, He went down and brought this waiting group up to heaven. Romans 3:24-26 says that YHWH, the Father, displayed Yeshua’s redemption publicly to forgive and justify sinners (OT believers). Luke 16:19-31.[1]
His death and resurrection were palpable in all three realms of creation, in heaven, on earth, and in Hades.
Yeshua killed death.
He died to conquer death and bring eternal life to all who believe in Him. John 11:25. He defeated death and demonstrated life after death. 1 Peter 3:18.
Yeshua was innocent of sin.
His resurrection proved that He was innocent of sin, even though He was made to be sin. It means that YHWH is just and righteous. He reversed the unjust and evil sentence on Yeshua with the truth.
The Father justified Him by accepting the sacrifice of His blood, once for all time and for all people. (Hebrews 9:7-12) On the Day of Atonement, the High Priest would carry the blood of the bull into the Holy of Holies for the forgiveness of his sins and of his priestly family. Then he would take the goat’s blood inside and sprinkle it seven times on the east side of the mercy seat for the sins of the nation. (Lev 16:1-30; 23:26-32).
Yeshua is seated at the right hand of God the Father.
After Yeshua’s resurrection and ascension, He was seated at the right hand of God the Father, far above all rule and authority, every power and dominion, and over every name that is named in heaven and on earth, in this age and the age to come. His Name is above and over all names. YHWH has given us the same resurrection power that He exerted to raise the Messiah from the dead. This is the great surpassing power that members of His body possess. There is no greater power or authority. With Yeshua as the head of the church, his body, this power brings healing, restoration, and resurrection in dead places, circumstances, and people. Ephesians 1:20-23. Romans 8:11. ! Cor 6:14.
He intercedes for us before the Father.
Heb 7:25. More sheep must be brought into the fold/ family of ADONAI from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. Rev 7:9.[2]
He will return to judge and to save. Heb 9:27-28, Acts 17:31.
Living hope.
Through the resurrection of Yeshua Messiah, we are born again into a living hope. 1 Peter 1:3. Those who have slept in the Lord before His second coming will come with Yeshua. (1 Thess 4:14; John 6:40). Though we die physically, we will be alive with Yeshua spiritually.
He returned so that the Holy Spirit could come.
Yeshua told his disciples that it was best he returned to the Father so that the Holy Spirit (the Comforter, Teacher, Intercessor, Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby, the Helper) would come and indwell all believers. John 16:7; Acts 1:9-11. Only then did Pentecost and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all believers happen. Yeshua is no longer present physically on earth, but rather spiritually omnipresent. Thus, the believers would experience Him personally and be transformed from darkness to light. John 14:26. Acts 2. The Holy Spirit empowered the body of the Messiah to do His will to bring His kingdom on earth.
Shalom. May the blessings of the resurrection of Yeshua fill your soul with joy and peace.
